SST Transmission Maintenance – What the Manufacturer Says vs. Reality

Factory maintenance intervals vary, and in some cases, manufacturers claim that SST transmissions do not require servicing at all.

🔹 Oil & external filter change every 10,000–15,000 km
🔹 Major service (transmission disassembly & internal component maintenance) every 50,000 km

During a major service, we inspect all moving and pressurized components. If a transmission has gone too long without maintenance, a clutch replacement may be required. It is advisable not to wait until the clutch starts slipping—if the transmission is already removed, investing in a new clutch is a smart decision.

💡 A new clutch can last 150,000–300,000 km, ensuring trouble-free performance.
💡 For power upgrades, we recommend upgrading to a stronger clutch solution, such as Dodson Motorsport components.

Why Are SST Transmission Repairs So Rare?

When an SST transmission starts malfunctioning, most owners quickly realize that few workshops are capable of repairing them. The reason? SST gearboxes are highly complex, and very few specialists know how to properly service and repair them.

➡️ Dealerships do not repair SST transmissions – instead, they offer complete replacements, which can cost €5,000 or more.
➡️ Used reconditioned gearboxes are available on eBay, but logistics and waiting times make them a costly and time-consuming alternative.
